Fortnite is the living, action building game using Unreal Engine 4 from Epic Games. Epic Games is constantly adding new features to the game such as new locations and weapons so it’s easy to see why it could be overwhelming, especially if you’re constantly losing to more seasoned players with a lot more practice under their belts. To help you compete with the best, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite Fortnite weapons – pick the best gun for the right situation and grab yourself that sweet victory everybody covets.

1. Tactical Shotgun

If you’re not afraid to get up close and personal with the enemy then the Tactical Shotgun could be the gun for you. It’s a semi-automatic gun that will either eliminate the enemy instantly or take away a huge chunk of their health with just one shot if aimed correctly. It’s less accurate and deals less damage than the Pump Shotgun but has a higher fire rate and a bigger bullet spray so take that into consideration.

Its common and uncommon versions are littered almost everywhere but it’s the rare (blue) one that you want as it deals the most damage. The lower tiers still pack a punch but you’ll probably find you can’t kill an enemy in one hit with it unless it’s very early on in the match and they’ve got no shield or good counter weapon.

Although it’s powerful, using a Tactical Shotgun in the final circle might not work in your favor, especially if everyone else is holed up in forts. It really only works well in one-on-one close combat so bear that in mind when considering your weapon lineup for the late game.

2. SCAR

The SCAR is a purple/orange Assault Rifle found mainly in loot crate drops. It is the superior version of the M4 rifle and really, really packs a punch in combat, specifically when used at medium range. It can be tough finding one though – they’re extremely rare. It makes one-on-one fights a breeze, completely shredding away the opponent’s health and shield, and is especially useful during the early game when it comes to getting kills.

It’s also a great weapon during the mid-game when you are making your way towards the center. Catching other players out traversing is a good way to get a kill. Although, be prepared to switch your weapon should you fail to kill them, as opponents will likely retreat into a fort. It is sadly less accurate than its burst and scoped sisters though, so if you’re after a gun with a bit more precision, maybe you’d be better suited to one of those instead.

3. Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle

If you prefer long-range shooting, then the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle is for you. There’s no better feeling than crouching in a bush at the top of a mountain, popping an unsuspecting passer-by in the head. It does a ton of damage with one hit, meaning that you’re pretty much guaranteed a one-shot kill if you can land a headshot on a foe.

It only fires one bullet at a time though, meaning you really have to be careful when reloading between shots as it leaves the enemy with a pretty big window in which to kill you if they spot you. If you’d rather have a sniper with a higher fire rate then you’re probably better off using the semi-auto sniper rifle but just remember that it does less damage per hit.

4. Minigun

The Pump Shotgun is perfect for those who prefer a stealthier approach, especially during the earlier stages of the game. If you find yourself landing in an area with multiple players and want to rack up one or two kills quickly, grabbing the gun and waiting in the shadows or in a corner can really work to your advantage. It’s more precise in its bullet spray and deals a ton of damage in a single shot, making it perfect to take enemies by surprise as they run around corners. It’s also great for hiding in bushes and jumping people as they run by.

If you prefer to run and gun then the Tactical Shotgun is going to be more suitable as it has a bigger spray and shoots faster. But if you want to be stealthier or want to deal more damage in close-quarter combat, the Pump Shotgun is king.

5. Impulse Grenade

The Impulse Grenade is a fantastic weapon to use when outrunning the storm circle as the force of its explosion pushes enemies far away from you, sheltering you from combat. It’s also perfect for the endgame as it can force opponents out into the storm, killing them almost instantly.

If you ever find yourself in a long-distance shootout with someone in a fort, a well-thrown Impulse Grenade can blow your opponent out of their fort. Depending on their structure's height, they can also be killed from the fall damage.

6. Burst Assault Rifle

Although the new Burst Assault Rifle has only just been introduced into the game relatively recently, it quickly earned itself a spot in our list. If you find yourself struggling with accuracy or hitting moving players with other assault weapons, the Burst Assault offers up a hot, steaming plateful of stability as its burst firing reduces the recoil you would normally get with assault weapon spray, while also packing a punch with each hit you land.

It is the perfect weapon for those that usually prefer to use single shots with assaults due to the recoil and spray being hard to control – its firing is much more forgiving for new players as it allows them to correct their aim in between bursts. At the same time, the Burst Assault is also extremely deadly for skilled sharpshooters as well.
